Surly Curmudgeon

The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire. The former are idealists acting from highest motives for the greatest good of the greatest number. The latter are surly curmudgeons, suspicious and lacking in altruism. But they are more comfortable neighbors than the other sort.

    Turn the Page

In his commencement address to Stanford, the late Steve Jobs famously said,

No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don't want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life's change agent.

    Death is Life's change agent.

That has floated around in my brain ever since I first heard it. And with his death yesterday, Steve Jobs reminded me of it once again. I'd hate to see his wisdom go unheeded.

I think it's time I made some changes, walked away from some things, and got more serious about some others.

    Quote of the Day

‎"All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity. But the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act upon their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible. "

    RIP Steve Jobs

    Thought for the Day

You never know what you know until you have to support someone who doesn't know it.

    Shadow Era

I've been playing a virtual collectible card game called Shadow Era. The rules are a bit simpler than Magic: The Gathering, but it seems to have a decent amount of depth, and I appreciate the fact that it's A: free to play, and B: paperless. It's playable through both web browser and iOS device (iPhone, iPad), and apparently Android as well, though I tried the iPhone version and wasn't happy with how tiny the screen is. It's much better on a tablet-sized device.

If you like CCG's, it's worth a look.
